Feeding occurs on the upper surface;  tissue is consumed but not the veins. 
Feeding first on the lower surface under a loose covering of silk, later feeding  on the upper surface and the edges of the leaf are tied together forming a protective shelter. 
The entire leaf is consumed except for the main veins and petiole with damage occurring in the upper third of the canopy initially.
