This is a picture of a squash bug. While these two bugs resemble each other, they can be distinguished by their shape and size:
- Squash bugs- flattened, tear-drop shaped bodies 16 mm (5/8 in.) long.
- Tarnished plant bugs- oval shaped bodies, 6- 7 mm (1/4 in.) in length.
Squash bugs usually appear in large clusters of varying sized nymphs and adults. The tarnished plant bug can be further distinguished by a distinctive small, yellow-tipped triangle on its back behind the head (T).
