a Only payments related to current production and paid directly to producers are included in this series. Excluded are programs which are considered to be indirect payments (I.e. directed to a third party outside of agriculture for the benefit of producers), transfer payments (I.e. those directed to individuals rather than to the agriculture industry), and capital assistance grants (I.e. not considered to be related to current production). Regardless of the year in which a program payment is established, payments in the table above are allocated to the calendar year during which they are actually received by producers.

b Crop Insurance reflects the indemnities and premiums under the "Crop Insurance Act" only. Payments and producer premiums under private hail insurance are not included.
