Ontario Helping to Rejevunate Bath
McGuinty Government Supports Loyalist Township Revitalization
Ontario is helping Loyalist Township and the County of Lennox and Addington
revitalize the community of Bath.
The province is investing $190,000 to help the township develop a downtown
revitalization program consisting of landscaping projects, marketing,
promotion and increased collaboration between business and the community.
In addition, this project also hopes to increase the prosperity in Bath
and attract heritage tourists.
The funding is part of the Rural Economic Development Program which invests
in community-based projects in three priority areas:
- Improved access to health care services
- Revitalized communities and downtowns
- Enhanced skills training
Quotes
"I am pleased to support this project to help the community grow
and prosper. Revitalizing the town and then strategically promoting it
to others will help attract jobs, businesses and tourists to the area,"
said Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Minister Leona
Dombrowsky.
"Thanks to the support of the provincial government, we can proceed
with implementing our vision. The changes that we will make to our community's
core will not only improve the look of it, but will also contribute to
a more vibrant Bath that will help attract business and tourism to the
area," said Loyalist Township Reeve Clayton
McEwen.
"The support of the provincial government is vital and has acted
as a catalyst to secure valuable partnerships with large community corporations
like Lafarge Canada and Kingston Cogen. This combined with the efforts
of community, municipal and business leaders in the region means that
the Community Revitalization Committee can proceed full steam ahead with
its plans to revitalize Bath," said Committee Chairperson Louis Gagnon.
