Ontario boosts green community initiative
McGuinty Government Supports Environmental Partnership in Stone Mills
Ontario is helping the Township of Stone Mills become greener and more
environmentally conscious.
The province is investing $19,700 to help the township develop a detailed
work plan for green initiatives and address community concerns about climate
change, energy and water consumption and air pollution.
This initiative will encourage partnerships between businesses and the
community and engage families about the need for energy conservation and
the preservation of green spaces in the Tamworth/Erinsville area. Achieving
this goal would not only be positive for local residents but would attract
more visitors to the area, increase economic activity and develop green
industry.
The funding is part of the Rural
Economic Development Program which invests in community-based projects
in three priority areas:
- Improved access to health care services
- Revitalized communities and downtowns
- Enhanced skills training.
