Invests In Business Retention and Expansion Project
Queen's Park - The Ontario government is supporting community revitalization in Goderich by investing in a plan for economic development, Carol Mitchell, MPP for Huron-Bruce, announced today on behalf of Leona Dombrowsky, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
"The McGuinty government is committed to investing in prosperity for Ontarians," said Mitchell. "Today's announcement shows how we are making progress in strengthening our communities and providing greater opportunities for Ontario's greatest asset -- our people."
The government will contribute $22,500 to help the Goderich and District Chamber of Commerce create a strategic action plan for economic development and business retention and expansion in the Town of Goderich. Project partners include the Goderich and District Chamber of Commerce, the Huron Business Development Corporation, the Town of Goderich, the Goderich Business Improvement Area and the County of Huron Planning Department. The plan will be a collaborative effort between the existing business community and the funding partners to develop a strategy for future economic development and business retention.
"We are pleased that the Ontario government has chosen to support this project," said Betty Southgate, president of the Goderich and District Chamber of Commerce. "The economic development plan will allow us to revitalize the community and enhance business opportunities throughout the Town of Goderich."
Today's investment was made through the Rural Economic Development (RED) program, which invests in projects that support sustainable rural economies and community partnerships -- a key part of the government's plan for rural Ontario. Through the RED program, the Ontario government and its rural partners are building stronger communities that work better for the people who live in them.
