For Immediate Release October 1, 2004 Government Supports Regional Economic Development OpportunitiesInvests In Collaborative Marketing Strategy For Northumberland
Cobourg -- The Ontario government is supporting regional economic and community development in Northumberland County by investing in the Northumberland Regional Economic Development Initiative, Lou Rinaldi, MPP for Northumberland, announced today.
"The McGuinty government is partnering with Northumberland County to strengthen the potential for community revitalization, business development and tourism in this area," Rinaldi said. "This project will have a positive impact on all of Northumberland's communities and improve the quality of life for local residents."
The government of Ontario will invest $125,121 to help partnering municipalities in Northumberland County develop a coordinated marketing strategy to attract national and international investment to the region. A key feature of the strategy will be a county-wide database of local business, land development and community profiles.
"The support of the provincial government is key to the success of this project," said Northumberland County Warden Rick Austin. "The regional development initiative will help our county better promote the great things we have to offer through a coordinated, strategic approach." Today's investment was made through the Ontario's Rural Economic Development (RED) program, which invests in projects that support sustainable rural economies and community partnerships. Through the RED program, the provincial government and its partners are delivering real, positive change that will make rural Ontario strong, healthy and prosperous. | Top of Page | For more information: |
