  1. Agri-Food and Rural Link KTT Funding Program (OMAFRA-University of Guelph partnership): new call for KTT proposals issued - principal investigator must be faculty or staff from the University of Guelph. Proposal submission deadline is December 5, 2014 at 12:30pm EST.
  2. New Directions Research Program - Call for Letters of Intent (LOI) now closed. Only applicants who are successful at the letter of intent stage will be invited to submit a full proposal.
  3. 2014-15 Quebec-Ontario Cooperation for Agri-Food Research Competition: Call for full proposals now closed.

  1. New Directions Call for Letters of Intent is now open. Submission deadline is Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 4:00 EST. Researchers must apply through the Research Management System (RMS).
April
  1. 2014-15 Quebec-Ontario Cooperation for Agri-Food Research Competition: Call for full proposals now open. The Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ) and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) have developed a joint research competition on research topics of mutual interest to both provinces related to pest management and water management. Submission deadline is Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 4 p.m.
  2. Food Safety Research Program - Call for Letters of Intent (LOI) now closed. Only applicants who are successful at the letter of intent stage will be invited to submit a full proposal.
  3. New Directions Research Program - 2013-14 projects summaries regarding bee health and related BMP's in field crop production now posted.

2013

October
  1. Call for Letters of Intent - OMAFRA/University of Guelph Partnership Research Program. The University of Guelph has launched its call for proposals for under the OMAF and MRA/University of Guelph Partnership Research Program. Lead applicants must be from the University of Guelph, but partnerships are encouraged. Program details are available on the UofG website at the link above. The deadline for submission is Friday, December 13 at noon.
  2. Call for Full Proposals - New Directions - Bee Health and Related BMPs in Field Crop Production: The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) is issuing a second Call for proposals for the New Directions Research Program. The priorities address issues related to bee health and related best management practices in field crop production. The deadline for submission is December 11 at 4:00 EST.
  3. New Directions - Call for Letter of Intent related to Antimicrobial Resistance, Climate Change and Rural is now closed. Only applicants who are successful at the letter of intent stage will be invited to submit a full proposal. Researchers will be notified of the status of Letters of Intent by January 15, 2014.

  1. OMAFRA are issuing a Call for Letters of Intent (LOI) for the Food Safety Research Program. You must apply on-line. The deadline for receipt of Letters of Intent is Thursday June 6, 2013 at 4:00 p.m.

  1. “Flexibility is key to getting local food in Ontario healthcare facilities”, say University of Guelph researchers following the completion of a local food research project funded by the Province of Ontario.   1. This Tobacco Yields Gold: 2012-13 Agri-Food Yearbook - This fourth edition of the OMAFRA-University of Guelph Partnership, Agri-Food yearbook is now available from the Partnership website. The Partnership is a significant contributor to innovation and competitiveness in Ontario’s agri-food industry, and the Yearbook profiles research and laboratory programs that reduce costs, improve quality & safety, and expands markets for Ontario products. Contact Robyn Meerveld (Research and Innovation Branch) if you would like a hard copy.
  2. The second Emergency Management Research Expo was held December 7, 2012 at 1 Stone Road welcoming an audience of government, academia and industry stakeholders. The day showcased Emergency Management research and knowledge translation and transfer projects funded under the OMAFRA-UofG Partnership as well presentations by government on impacts of research to policy. Presentations from the 2012 Emergency Management Research Expo are now available on the University of Guelph website.

The new site is interactive, easy to use and gives you real-time access to research results, in addition to connecting you with the latest agri-food and rural research information.   2. List of successful KTT Projects from the Fall Call 2010 - 11 projects were funded for a total of $635,000.

  1. Harnessing natures medicine - 2010 Agri-Food Yearbook - This second edition of the OMAFRA-UofG Partnership, Agri-Food yearbook focuses on sustainability from an economic, social and environmental view point.

  1. The University of Guelph has issued a Fall Call for Letters of Intent for research that addresses the seven themes under the OMAFRA-University of Guelph Partnership. Deadline for submission is November 29, 2010 by noon.

  2. The joint Growing the Margins Conference and Exhibition and the Canadian Farm and Food Biogass Conference and Exhibition (both scheduled for February 28 - March 2, 2011 are issuing a Call for Abstracts - note deadline submission date September 17, 2010.

  1. Work term and job shadowing opportunities - The Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP) Scholarship Program is a new program funded through the 2008 -2013 OMAFRA - UofG Agreement. The HQP site allows employers to post their job shadowing and work term opportunities and for students to highlight their interest in finding employment / job shadowing opportunities.

  1. New Agri-Food and Rural Link KTT Funding Program – the OMAFRA-University of Guelph Partnership launches a new program for knowledge translation and transfer (KTT). Faculty and professional staff at the University of Guelph and OMAFRA staff can apply. Deadline for receipt of proposals is June 28, 2010.

  1. The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is issuing a call for letters of intent (LOI) for the Food Safety Research Program. The deadline for receipt of signed Letters of Intent is Friday, May 21, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.
February
  1. OMAFRA now asks researchers to provide a KTT plan when applying for OMAFRA funded research. Visit the KTT home page for information about how to build a KTT plan and for links to great KTT tools.
  2. The 2007-2008 annual report of the Agricultural Research Institute of Ontario is now available on-line. The 2008-2009 report will be available in the summer 2010.
  3. Interested in food safety research? Results of all the projects funded in 2005 are now available.

The 8th annual Food Safety Research Forum was held on May 6, 2010 at the Delta Guelph Hotel on 1 Stone Road West. The event was attended by over 150 people from 42 institutions. The Forum comprised 15 presentations and 11 poster exhibits.

2009

June

Final Meeting of the Ontario Agricultural Services Coordinating Committee

The final meeting of the Ontario Agricultural Services Coordinating Committee OASCC) was held on June 24, 2009 at Peter Clark Hall, University of Guelph. Participants included the chairs and representatives of the 9 Research and Services Committees, their corresponding sub-committee chairs, the OMAFRA Director Champions, University of Guelph Research Program Directors, ARIO and OMAFRA staff.

The meeting officially launched the new OMAFRA Research Advisory Network (ORAN) which replaces the former OASCC system as a mechanism for setting research priorities for OMAFRA funded research. The ministry also discussed its plans to preserve the valuable service function that was provided by a number of the OASCC Research and Services committees.
