In 2003 the Ontario Food Processing Research and Services Committee developed a strategic plan to cover research priorities for the period 2004 – 2008. This was done by piloting a new process whereby a small team from OMAF developed reports on:

  • Food related research in Canadian and international jurisdictions
  • Results of a survey of food researchers to identify major issues affecting the industry
  • Results of a survey of trade associations to identify major issues affecting the industry
  • Round table session with individual food companies to identify the major issues impacting the food industry

ll of these reports were presented at the annual meeting of the OFPRSC as background material to stimulate and facilitate discussion. The result was a report from OFPRSC that contained 3 general recommendations for food research, 3 research priorities and 2 service priorities. The report containing the detail of these recommendations can be obtained from OMAFRA by emailing research@omafra.gov.on.ca.
