The role of the Ontario Field Crops Research and Services Committee and its eight constituent subcommittees is to recommend strategic research and service directions. These include research and service initiatives to improve the efficiency of crop production; reduce the environmental “foot print” of these production practices and improve the competitiveness of, and opportunities for, Ontario agriculture in world markets. The role of this committee is to identify and prioritize research and service initiatives to insure the effective use of publicly funded research. Our members include industry partners and growers representing the Ontario Field crop sector as well as, university and government research, policy and extension personnel.
The committee has identified three research priorities and one service priority. These encompass four main themes: building economic strength by adding value, providing solutions to societal changes, strong leadership/ industry renewal and safe, nutritious food. All priorities address one or more of these themes.
