Research and Innovation

Research and innovation is important for everyone. It affects all aspects of our lives:

• produces safer, higher quality food
• protects our environment
• produces bioproducts and renewable fuels
• achieves growth and profitability
• build stronger rural communities.

The ministry spends over $60 million yearly on research and innovation. Our major initiatives include:

• the new e-grant system entitled 'Research Management System (RMS)'
• the partnership with the University of Guelph for research, laboratory services and veterinary clinical education
• several other research programs
• an information exchange process for sharing the knowledge gained from ministry funded research
• working with the Agricultural Research Institute of Ontario

The Research and Innovation Branch (RIB) administers these programs.
