Sheldon Berries

MPP Kathryn McGarry, Ray and Peggy Sheldon

Customers come for miles for the fruit and vegetables at Oxford County's Sheldon Berries. Unfortunately, birds have also taken a real shine to the operation's blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. Seeing revenue being gobbled up by the feathered feasters, the owners of Sheldon Berries went looking for solutions. They landed on a plastic mesh made by Gintec Shade Technologies. Made up of tiny plastic squares, the netting keeps the birds away. On top of that, it breaks up hard droplets of rain and protects fruit from hail. And unlike conventional systems that require large, heavy overhead superstructures, the long-lasting plastic netting can be set up over individual rows. Today, that means more berries for consumers - of the paying kind.
