Kinglake Farms Inc.

MPP Kathryn McGarry and Remi VanDeslyke

In 2002, when this pioneering hop yard produced its first harvest, all 30 craft breweries in Ontario relied on imported hops. Today, it's a different story. By sharing his knowledge with other growers and selling starter plants, Kinglake's founder has single-handedly revived the Ontario hops industry. To meet brewery demand for pelletized hops, he has invested in a new pellet mill and provides custom processing for producers across the province. Meanwhile, his German-made hops harvester is reducing the costs of this labour-intensive crop. While Ontario hops production keeps growing, so does demand. Today there are more than 100 acres of hop yards across the province, and more than 100 craft brewers "thirsty" for their harvest.
