'Prickly Pear' cider is a new product that packs both an alcoholic and economic punch. Using pears to make hard cider has, until recently, been a European phenomenon. With an alcohol content that is equivalent to beer, and less than wine, the product appeals to both types of consumers - which is why the maker is selling it in both 750 ml and 330 ml bottles. The product was so popular that it sold out within three months of being available in its first year. Production will be tripled this year, and the product shows lots of promise for generating new income and jobs for the Grey-Bruce area and beyond.
