Rainbow Heritage Garden grows 200 heirloom vegetables, along with other crops on 50 acres in Renfrew County. They have a 12,000-gallon catchment pond where they collect water to irrigate crops. Water is pumped from the catchment pond to large water storage tanks that are located on the ridge that runs through the farm. The owners use a solar generator mounted on a wagon to pump the water to the tanks. The mobile solar generator is reliable, environmentally responsible and cost-effective. In fact, it completely paid for itself in three years. This is just part of the innovative, whole-farm thinking that is reaping benefits for Rainbow Heritage Garden at every stage of production.
