A stronger, more resistant bee has resulted from the hard work and patience of François Petit.  His work has helped the equally hard working bee resist a parasitical mite called Varroa. To combat its effects, Petit started a breeding program in 2002 using Russian stock bees.  Now the bees survive better over the winter, they are not dependent on chemicals to control parasites and diseases, and honey production has increased, meaning increased revenues for apiarists.  Breeding stock from this 1,000 beehive operation has been sold to 100 beekeepers in Ontario, and another 100 elsewhere in Canada.
