2011 / 2010 / 2009 / 2008 / 2007 / 2006 Kawartha Ecological Growers (KEG) – Kawartha Lakes County
Mark Trealout; Laura Boyd; Leona Dombrowsky, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and MPP for Prince Edward-Hastings KEG keeps farmers in Kawartha on the road to sustainability by providing them with a distribution service that allows them to concentrate on farming. Four times a week, KEG runs one vehicle loaded with local products from 15 farms to more than 30 Toronto restaurants and butcher shops. KEG saves the environment, increases business and plans to add more farms to increase the volume and variety on offer. Sales tripled between 2006 and 2008. In 2008, KEG also started a community shared agriculture program that now has 160 members in the greater Toronto area.
