This figure is a side view diagram of a partially
submerged concrete liquid manure storage structure with a foundation drain connected
to an observation and shut-off station. The storage structure in this diagram
illustrates the storage wall, floor and foundation footing. A water-stop is shown
between the foundation footing and the wall. A sealant is present in the joint
between the floor and the wall. At the outside of the foundation footing, the
foundation drain connects to an observation and shut-off station through a drainage
pipe. The water collected in the foundation drain is channeled into the observation
and shut-off station. The observation and shut-off station is an open top catch
basin where the drainage water enters at approximately 0.4 meters above the catch
basin floor. The drainage water then empties via a pipe with a 90-degree elbow
directed upward to the top of the basin. A vertical standpipe is located above
the 90-degree elbow. Should the drainage water from the catch basin need to be
stopped, this vertical standpipe can be inserted into the 90-degree elbow.
