Changes to the Nutrient Management Regulations to Reduce Regulatory Burden for Agricultural Operations

Effective July 1, 2019, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) and the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) made these changes to the O. Reg 267/03 General under the Nutrient Management Act:

  1. Streamlined the regulation under the Nutrient Management Act by removing the automatic five-year expiration associated with a nutrient management strategy (NMS).
  2. Increased flexibility to deal with nutrients from non-farm grazing animals that are kept on facilities other than farms, such as game farms.
  3. Clarified the definition of commercial fertilizer and nutrients.
