Can Other Animal Species Get WNV?
Evidence of WNV infection has been found in many wild and domestic animals, including dogs, cats, and squirrels. However, the risk of these other species developing clinical disease from the infection appears to be very low. Pets can also be protected by eliminating possible mosquito breeding sites on your property and avoiding exposure to mosquitoes at the peak activity periods of dusk and dawn. Talk to your veterinarian before using insect repellents on your pet. The vaccine available for use in horses is not licensed for any other
species. Any off-label use of the vaccine should be discussed with
your veterinarian. | Top of Page | For more information:Toll Free: 1-877-424-1300 Local: (519) 826-4047 E-mail: ag.info.omafra@ontario.ca |
