The Four Main Components of Light Harness for Horses and their Individual Parts

Light harness for horses is made up of four components: the bridle, the collar, the back pad and the breeching, with several parts in each component.

Bridle (1 - 7)

1. throat latch
2. crown
3. brow band
4. blinker or winker
5. cheekpiece
6. nose band
7. Liverpool bit

Collar (8 & 9)

8.   hames
9.   collar

Back Pad (10 - 12)

10.  terret
11.  back pad
12.  belly band

Breeching (13 - 17)

13.  back strap
14.  hip strap
15.  crupper
16.  breeching
17.  breeching strap  

The lines allow the driver to communicate with the horse while the shaft and traces connect the horse to the vehicle.
