Figure 1 depicts relative comparisons of the four bedding types.

Relative ease of stall cleaning
Stalls bedded with peat moss are the most easily cleaned. Coir bedded stalls are slightly less or as easily cleaned. Stalls with pine shavings are more difficult to clean and those with wheat straw are more difficult or equal to those with pine shavings.

Relative horse cleanliness
Horses are the cleanest when bedded on wheat straw. Pine shavings are next, then coir. Peat Moss is the dirtiest bedding.

Relative dust levels
Wheat straw produces the least amount of dust, followed by pine shavings, then coir. Peat moss produces the most dust.
