We have all become very familiar with QA programs being developed over the last few years. If you are raising beef cattle you probably know that the Canadian Cattlemen adopted a Quality Starts Here" Program a number of years ago. While we all think we are producing a top quality product it doesn't hurt to give our management and ourselves a quick check up every now and then. To make this easier CCA has come out with a pocket notebook that lists the majority of medications used in beef production along with the withdrawal time for label dosage. (Remember off label dosage needs a vet-script and they can then advise on withdrawal) Did you realize that E-sel; back rubber spray and scour boluses have withdrawal times or that most implants don't? There is a wealth of info packed into this small book. In the back is a handy chart to mark down the 5 W's of treatment. Who you treated, why you treated, when you treated, where you treated them, and what you treated them with. These basic records made in the barn beside the chute or pen sure can help with your memory later. So where do you rush right out to get one? They are available at OMAF Resource Centres, from the OCA Office in Guelph, OCA staff members and most likely your Vet. So don't delay but get yours today.
