Welcome to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs
Geographic Information Portal. This website is a single access point
to all of your geospatial agricultural and rural affairs information.
The Geographic Information Portal provides users with:
- a dynamic interactive Agricultural Information Atlas;
- geospatial data downloads; and
- an explanation of program information and initiatives provided
by OMAFRA GIS Staff.
Agricultural Information Atlas
The Agricultural Information Atlas is an OMAFRA initiative to better
serve the public and agricultural community through a dynamic interactive mapping website (Figure 1).
This website serves as a tool to acquire agricultural information
or create maps as per regulatory requirements. It has also been
developed to meet the needs of our agricultural industry partners
and stakeholders such as:
- Land Owners
- Land Use Planners
- Agricultural Industries
- Consultants and Engineers
- Upper Tier and Lower Tier Municipal Governments
- Academics

Geospatial Data View and Downloads
The geospatial data view provides links to OMAFRA data layers available
for download in Google Earth, Standard NRVIS Interchange Format
(SNIF) and shapefile formats. These data sets can be previewed on
the Geospatial Dataview
page. Metadata records have been created for each layer and
are accessible through the Geospatial
download webpage.
Canada Land Inventory (CLI) Mapping
The Canada Land Inventory (CLI) mapping provides a land use index
for agriculture, forestry and recreation uses. Prefabricated CLI
maps in PDF format can be downloaded by visiting the CLI webpage.

Soil Reports and Maps can be accessed through the following locations:
- Soils Ontario - Background information,
objectives and application uses
- Land Information Ontario (LIO) (Ministry of Natural Resources)
Most current mapping at a scale of 1:63,000.
- CANSIS (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada) The original
soils mapping at a scale of 1:250,000. PDF soil reports are also
available
- Service Ontario
Hard copy print outs (a fee will apply to hard copy print
outs).
