Supporting Local Producers In Grey-Bruce - McGuinty Government Supports Agri-Food Industry, Invests in Local Farmers

NEWS

August 6, 2011

Ontario is helping to expand the market for locally-grown food in Grey and Bruce counties.
With the support of the Ontario Market Investment Fund, the Grey-Bruce Local Food Project will promote the products of local farmers and businesses to shoppers, restaurants, grocery stores and institutional kitchens. Activities will include developing new farmers' market signs, promoting seasonal produce and expanding marketing support for growers.
Supporting local food helps to build a strong agri-food industry and is part of the McGuinty government's plan to create jobs and opportunities that will grow the province's economy.

QUOTES

"This support will help the Grey-Bruce Local Food Project promote food from our local farmers markets and businesses. Investing in these types of projects helps provide our families with access to fresh, local food, while creating jobs and strengthening the economy in Bruce and Grey counties and across the province. When we buy local, everyone wins."
- Carol Mitchell, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs

"The Province of Ontario, together with the Counties of Bruce and Grey, has been a significant partner over the past three years in funding locally developed programs designed to expand the opportunities for local agricultural producers, restaurateurs, and other food related businesses. FoodlinkGreyBruce.com would not have been able to support, to the current extent, the ongoing development and expansion of these small local businesses without the funding provided by the Province of Ontario Market Investment Fund."
- David Smith, Senior Planner, County of Bruce
