Supporting Local Producers in Kingston -
McGuinty Government Supports Agri-Food Industry, Invests in Local Food

NEWS

August 27, 2011

Ontario is helping to encourage more families to buy locally-grown food in Kingston.

With the support of the Ontario Market Investment Fund , the Downtown Kingston! Business Improvement Area will expand on its Local Food, Local Chefs campaign. This will improve the Kingston Public Market, build partnerships among local food suppliers and buyers, and increase the number of restaurants using local food.

Supporting local food helps to build a strong agri-food industry and is part of the McGuinty government's plan to create jobs and opportunities that will grow the province's economy.

QUOTES

This summer I encourage everyone to visit their local farmers market and bring more of the good things that grow in Ontario home to their table."
- Carol Mitchell, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs

"This project will improve the economy not only of Kingston, but also of the entire region and surrounding communities by supporting our farmers and the high-quality products they provide."
