Promoting Local Food

NEWS

January 22, 2010

Provincial support for marketing projects is feeding people’s appetite for local food and strengthening rural economies.

To promote the local foods that support the people, communities and economies of rural Ontario, the Province is investing in eight new projects through the Ontario Market Investment Fund. Some of these projects are:

  • Re-inventing the Kitchener Market with a strong focus on local food
  • Promoting the nutritional benefits of Ontario mushrooms
  • Showing schoolchildren the goodness of local food with a new, all-Ontario snack

The four-year program has invested more than $4.75 million in 94 projects to date.  The program helps develop economic opportunities through trade events, marketing campaigns and industry research projects. It is part of Ontario’s investment in ‘buy local’ initiatives.
