Potential Bio-Fuel Plant In Southwestern Ontario Explored
Ontario is helping the bio-fuel industry explore new opportunities that could strengthen the bio-economy in southwestern Ontario. The province is investing $50,000 to evaluate the feasibility of constructing and operating a unique multi-oilseed plant. Local farms could potentially provide the material a new facility would require to produce bio-fuel. The funding will help AGRIS Co-operative and Suncor Energy study alternative fuel sources in southwestern Ontario. The funding is part of the Rural
Economic Development Program which invests in community-based projects
in three priority areas:
QUOTES"Using innovative alternative fuel sources, we have the opportunity to build stronger, healthier and cleaner communities," said Chatham-Kent-Essex MPP Pat Hoy. "This feasibility study will open up the potential of bio-fuel development in Ontario and create new jobs for our communities." "We are grateful to the McGuinty government for recognizing the innovative nature of this project," said AGRIS Co-operative President Richard Tanner. "This project has the potential to create synergy between our organization and Suncor Energy to provide economic benefits to farmers and their communities." QUICK FACTS
