New Agricultural Framework To Focus On Bio-ProductsJuly 17, 2008 NEWSOntario is helping Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry County develop an Ag-industrial Development framework, which will link consumers, processors and the research community. The McGuinty government's $896,815 investment towards the framework will help the partners focus on manufacturing and processing bio-products and bio-product driven agriculture in areas such as bio-energy, bio-chemicals and functional foods. This project will help lead to new manufacturing and processing opportunities, new farm income and renewable lower cost energy. The funding is part of the Rural Economic Development Program which invests in community-based projects in three priority areas:
QUOTES"Through this project, we hope to increase Ontario's annual specialty food exports by $32 million and bio-fuel product exports by $2 million," said Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MPP Jim Brownell. "The framework not only significantly impacts this county, but Ontario as a whole." "It is expected that 20-50 permanent positions will be created through this project," said Estella Rose, Warden for the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry.
