MCGUINTY GOVERNMENT PROMOTES NIAGARA TOURISM INITIATIVE

Marketing Programs To Help Brand Area And Attract Visitors

JORDAN - The McGuinty government is supporting Twenty Valley's branding and marketing initiative to bring visitors and business into the area, Jim Bradley, Minister of Tourism announced today, on behalf of Leona Dombrowsky, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

"The benefits that this project will provide to surrounding communities are immeasurable," said Bradley. "Shining the spotlight on the unique opportunities that visitors to this area can experience will benefit all of Ontario."

The province will contribute $164,500 to help the Twenty Valley Tourism Association and its partner, the Jordan Village Merchants' Association, implement the "Partnered Marketing Programs for Twenty Valley" strategy, which will help promote community revitalization, economic growth and local tourism.

"With the support of the provincial government, our community can now elevate its efforts in making Niagara's Twenty Valley a major tourist destination in Ontario," said Leonard Pennachetti, treasurer of the Twenty Valley Tourism Association. "This project will help us strengthen our marketing strategy that will not only revitalize the area's business climate, it will also help to increase visitors to the many local attractions, restaurants and businesses."

This is just one more example of how, working together, Ontarians have achieved results in rural Ontario. Other examples include:

  • Providing an additional $70 million for the Rural Infrastructure Investment Initiative. This means a total of $140 million will be available for improvements to water systems, roads, bridge and other priorities.
  • Providing $472 million in 2007 to rural municipalities through the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund.
  • Providing $12.5 million to the Vineland Research and Innovations Centre Incorporated. The federal government is making a financial and in-kind commitment valued at $15.5 million over the next five years towards research projects that support the mission of this new Centre at Vineland. These are the first steps in creating a vital hub for horticultural science and innovation in Vineland by making it a model for research facilities elsewhere in the province and the country.

Today's investment was made through the Rural Economic Development (RED) Program, which invests in community-based projects that support sustainable rural economies in three priority areas: improved access to health care services, revitalized communities and downtowns, and enhanced skills training.

Through the RED Program, the province has invested $31.2 million in 108 projects, representing a total of investment of $187.6 million in rural Ontario, since 2003. The Ontario government and its partners are building strong rural communities that work better for the people who live in them.
