McGuinty Government Invests in Rural Ontario

$450,000 For The Township Of Beckwith

CARLETON PLACE - The McGuinty government is investing in families in rural Ontario, Leona Dombrowsky, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, announced today.

Ontario's $450,000 grant will help the Township of Beckwith improve the quality of life for its residents.

"Upgrading essential rural infrastructure is an important part of the McGuinty government's Rural Plan," said Dombrowsky. "By supporting the Township of Beckwith, we are demonstrating our commitment to build stronger rural communities."

Investing in the Township of Beckwith is one of the latest examples of how the McGuinty government is working on the side of Ontario families in rural Ontario. Other initiatives include:

  • Investing in rural communities through the Rural Economic Development Program. Since October 2003, 94 projects have been approved with a total provincial commitment of approximately $28.2 million.
  • Providing an additional $140 million to help smaller rural communities address their infrastructure needs.
  • Provided $400 million as part of the $1.2 billion Move Ontario initiative for municipal road and bridge maintenance and construction projects; included in this funding is $188 million for rural municipalities and $56 million for municipalities in Northern Ontario.
