New Economic Investment Means Growth In Tourism, Business
And Economy For Greater Peterborough Area
McGuinty Government On The Side Of Ontario Business
PETERBOROUGH - The McGuinty government is supporting community
revitalization by investing in a plan to promote business and economic
growth, Jeff Leal, MPP for Peterborough announced today on behalf of Leona
Dombrowsky, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
"Today's announcement shows how the McGuinty government is on the
side of Ontario businesses, including small businesses and entrepreneurs
who help Ontario prosper," said Leal. "We will continue to provide
every opportunity for a higher quality of life for the residents in the
Greater Peterborough Area."
The government will invest $20,000 to help the Greater Peterborough Area
Economic Development Corporation and the County of Peterborough develop
a Business Retention and Expansion strategy. The plan will promote tourism,
business and economic growth in the Greater Peterborough Area.
"We are pleased that the Ontario government has chosen to support
this project," said Jay Amer, general manager of the Greater Peterborough
Area Economic Development Corporation. "This plan will promote an
integrated approach to economic development and improve business and community
competitiveness for Peterborough."
Other McGuinty government initiatives for Ontario businesses include:
- Investing over $19 million in rural communities through the Rural
Economic Development Program since October 2003
- A $500 million advanced manufacturing investment strategy that provides
loans to help industry stay competitive
- A refundable apprenticeship training tax credit
Today's investment was made through the Rural Economic Development (RED)
program, which invests in projects that support sustainable rural economies
and community partnerships - a key part of the government's plan for rural
Ontario. Through the RED program, the Ontario government and its rural
partners are building stronger communities. For more information about
