Investment In Water Infrastructure Benefits The

Township Of Cavan-Millbrook-North Monaghan

MILLBROOK - Residents of the Township of Cavan-Millbrook-North Monaghan will benefit from cleaner, safer drinking water through an investment under the Canada-Ontario Infrastructure Program. Barry Devolin, MP for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock; the Honourable Leona Dombrowsky, Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs; and Neal Cathcart, Reeve of the Township of Cavan-Millbrook-North Monaghan, made the announcement today.

The Township of Cavan-Millbrook-North Monaghan's project includes the rehabilitation of the Millbrook well supply, which will improve the drinking water quality for 520 households. Upgrades include the design and installation of an additional tank to provide sufficient chlorine contact time and the maintenance of chlorine residuals. Other improvements will provide venting for the well casing and flood protection, as required.

The upgrades are required to bring the municipal water system into compliance with the Ontario
Drinking Water Systems Regulation and improve the overall quality of life for residents in the Township of Cavan-Millbrook-North Monaghan. "Green" municipal infrastructure is a top priority for the Canada-Ontario Infrastructure Program.

The Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario will each contribute up to $159,933 to this project. The Township of Cavan-Millbrook-North Monaghan will invest the balance of the project's total eligible cost of $479,800.

"Canada's new government understands the infrastructure needs of small communities and is helping them build the modern, safe and reliable water systems that are key to a high quality of life residents expect," said Mr. Devolin. "We are pleased to work with other levels of government to get the job done and secure the future prosperity of this community."

"This project for Cavan-Millbrook-North Monaghan demonstrates how the McGuinty government is working with municipalities to deliver safe, clean drinking water to all Ontarians," said Minister Dombrowsky. "This investment shows that we are on the side of families in rural Ontario."

"We are pleased to proceed with this project, which demonstrates that working in partnership can ensure the health and safety of residents in our community," said Mr. Cathcart. "On behalf of the residents of Cavan-Millbrook-North Monaghan, I would like to thank the federal and provincial governments for their support on this project."

This is one of a series of matching federal and provincial investments to help municipalities protect the health and safety of their residents through essential infrastructure projects, totalling over $1.3 billion to date in Ontario. A large number of these projects will ensure municipalities can supply residents with clean, safe drinking water.
