Ontario Government Invests In Economic Development In
Blind River And Mississauga First Nation
Funding To Help Communities Attract Investment
QUEEN'S PARK - The Ontario government is investing in economic
development in the communities of the Town of Blind River and Mississauga
First Nation by funding a strategy to attract business and jobs, Leona
Dombrowsky, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced
today.
"The McGuinty government is investing in prosperity for our northern
rural communities," said Dombrowsky. "We are confident that
this project will assist Blind River and Mississauga First Nation in building
stronger communities that offer their residents a higher quality of life."
The government will invest $50,000 to help the Blind River Development
Corporation and its partner, Misswezahging Development Corporation, develop
a strategy to identify investment and growth opportunities and attract
businesses to their communities.
"Economic development is key to northern and aboriginal communities,"
said David Ramsay, Minister of Natural Resources. "Today's announcement
supports that important goal."
"This project will have a positive impact on our communities by
providing a more efficient framework for investment recruitment,"
said Alex Solomon, chair, Blind River Development Corporation.
Today's investment was made through the Rural Economic Development (RED)
program, which invests in projects that support sustainable rural economies
and community partnerships, and is a key part of the government's plan
for rural Ontario. The rural plan provides a coordinated framework across
government to build on rural Ontario's strengths - committed people, diverse
economic opportunities, unrivalled resources and a solid sense of community.
