Brokers and Land Applicators – Deadline for Certification and Licensing

Brokers and land application businesses working with farm operations subject to the nutrient management regulation (O. Reg. 267/03) under the Nutrient Management Act, 2002 must be certified and/or licensed to perform their duties as of December 31, 2005.

Brokers who work with these operations require a Broker’s Certificate by December 31, 2005. Land application businesses will require a Prescribed Materials Application Business Licence by the same date. Neither the certificate nor the licence is required unless the business is working at farms that are subject to the regulation. However, regulatory amendments now capture more farm operations, including those farms with more than five nutrient units that apply for a building permit for livestock housing or a manure storage, or construct an earthen manure storage.

Three dates are currently scheduled for a one-day Broker’s Certificate Course, with additional dates to follow, as required:

St. Catharines December 13, 2005
Kemptville January 9, 2006
Woodstock January 17, 2006.

Three dates for the two-day Land Application Business Owner’s Licence Course have also been scheduled:

St. Catharines December 13 & 14, 2005
Kemptville January 9 & 10, 2006
Woodstock January 17 & 18, 2006.

Currently, there are two opportunities to write the exam(s) for the Broker Certificate and the Prescribed Materials Application Business Licence: Wednesday, December 21, 2005, and Thursday, January 26, 2006. Exams will be offered at the following locations across the province: Kemptville, Brighton, Vineland, Woodstock, Stratford, Clinton, Ridgetown and Elginburg (near Kingston). The Broker exam will begin at 9 a.m. and will be 1½ hours in duration. The Land Application exam will begin at 9 a.m. and will take 2 to 2½ hours to write.
