The new meat regulation (O/Reg. 31/05) under the Food Safety and Quality Act, 2001 (FSQA) modernizes the regulatory framework that governs the province's meat inspection program. The new regulation is one part of the government's response to a changing food safety environment and replaces the Meat Inspection Act (Ontario) and Regulation 632/92.
Ontario's new meat regulation is an important step toward harmonization with the National Meat and Poultry Regulation and Code (NMPRC), a science-based model regulation which aims to achieve consistency across all provinces and ensure that all meat sold in Canada meets the same high standards of safety and quality.
