Delivering safe, high-quality food at home and abroad

Through the Agricultural Policy Framework (APF), federal, provincial and territorial governments have committed themselves to help the agriculture and agri-food sector manage their risks and be more competitive and profitable. The Canadian Food Safety and Quality Program is a key part of the APF that will enhance Canada's reputation as a producer of safe, high-quality food products.

The Food Safety Initiative

The Food Safety Initiative (FSI) is one element of the Canadian Food Safety and Quality Program.

In Ontario, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) is responsible for managing the following programs and projects developed under the FSI:

  • GMP/HACCP Grant Program
    Provides direct grants to non-federally registered food processing plants to support the adoption of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) systems. *NEW* Purchase of equipment is now an eligible cost under this program.

  • GMP/HACCP Pilot Project
    Consists of GMP and HACCP pilot projects and the development of food safety resources.
    *Pilot sites have been selected. A list of selected sites is available at the related link below.

  • Traceability Grant Program
    The application form and guidelines will be available on February 12, 2007.

  • Traceability Pilot Project
