Description:

The Animal Health & Welfare Branch, Veterinary Inspection & Audit unit administers and assists in monitoring compliance with the following Acts: Food Safety and Quality Act (meat regulation), Livestock Community Sales Act, Livestock and Livestock Products Act, Farm Products Grades and Sales Act and the Dead Animal Disposal Act. This activity contributes to ensuring the safety of meat, the health and humane treatment of livestock marketed, the protection of producers' and consumers' interests with respect to the meat industry and proper disposal of deadstock. In addition, veterinary inspection services are provided for abattoirs and sales barns.
