Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' Food Inspection Branch keeps abreast of the non-traditional and specialty meat product requirements of the province's multi-cultural society.

Non-traditional and specialty meat products are subjected to the same rigorous inspection process as conventional products. Provincial meat inspectors ensure that they comply with all the requirements under the Food Safety and Quality Act and Meat Regulations 31/05 and the Meat Inspection Policies and Procedures. Products must be harvested in a sanitary fashion from approved carcasses only. Regional Veterinarian approval is required for some dressing, processing and harvesting methodologies.

Consumers who purchase provincially inspected meat products can be assured that they are purchasing a wholesome product and that the highest food safety and quality standards have been met.
