Changes to the Meat Regulation Now Effective

Following a consultation conducted in the winter of 2018, changes were made to Ontario Regulation 31/05 (Meat). The changes are effective as of July 1, 2019. This initiative is part of the Open for Business strategy and reduces regulatory burden on businesses while continuing to protect the public interest.

The changes support food safety for the public, reduce administrative burden; clarify requirements to provide more business opportunities; and move to more outcome-based requirements.
