L'ORIGNAL - A St. Isidore resident has been convicted for selling ungraded eggs. The charges arose from an investigation by the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR).

On September 18, 2008, Pierre L. Faubert pleaded guilty in the Ontario Court of Justice in L'Orignal to four counts under Ontario Regulation 724 (Eggs) of the Livestock and Livestock Products Act. The court heard that Faubert sold ungraded eggs for human consumption to several restaurants in eastern Ontario. The offences occurred on May 23 and 30, and June 6 2008.

Justice of the Peace François Pilon sentenced Faubert to a fine of $3,000. Four other charges were withdrawn.

The Eggs Regulation of the Livestock and Livestock Products Act is in place to protect consumers and to ensure that they get quality, graded, and inspected eggs and egg products. This legislation is administered by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) with investigative and prosecution services provided by MNR.
