This component of the Food Safety Initiative (FSI) provided funding for pilot projects for the development and implementation of (Good Manufacturing Practices) GMP and/or HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) systems based on the OMAFRA's Advantage Series of Food Safety Programs.
Eligible costs included funding for consultants, laboratory services and economic studies. FSI also reimbursed the company for GMP/ HACCP certification costs incurred through the audit and certification process by the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB). Capital costs and equipment purchases were not covered by this funding.
Federal and provincial food processors in
Ontario benefited from the FSI funding by participating in these pilot projects.
Fourteen (14) pilot sites were certified: 3 for the Advantage GMP program,
4 for the Advantage HACCP program, and 7 for the Advantage HACCP Plus
program. The Advantage HACCP Plus program includes elements of security
and traceability.
The following facilities took part in the GMP/HACCP
