Traceability Foundations Initiative (TFI)

The Traceability Foundations Initiative (TFI) is no longer accepting applications for funding.

The Traceability Foundations Initiative (TFI) is a three-year joint Federal-Provincial funding program to support voluntary, industry-led information sharing networks that will enhance agri-food traceability. The program provides up to 75 per cent cost share funding to sector organizations and value chains. Approved projects may be eligible for up to a maximum of $5 million in funding per project.

Traceability is an Important Part of Keeping Ontario Food Safe

The Traceability Foundations Initiative focuses on the development and enhancement of information sharing systems through collaborative business partnerships.

TFI is designed to:

  • Enhance information sharing for defined business purposes
  • Increase adoption and sustainability of voluntary traceability systems to national/international standards across a sector or along a value chain
  • Improve market access and substantiate product claims to generate economic benefits for participants
  • Increase capacity of industry to trace animals, agri-food and agri-based products and their associated attributes
  • Increase the ability of sectors and value chains to implement emergency response (e.g. food recall) procedures when required
