The ministry developed the Advantage Series of Food Safety Programs™ to address food safety from farm to fork. These programs establish a standardized approach for everyone in Ontario's agri-food industry.

This series is based on industry best practices and internationally recognized Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles. All programs are voluntary.

Current programs in the series include:

Our traceability programs and products apply to all participants in the agri-food chain and are based on nationally recognized CanTrace traceability standards.

Why should Ontario's food industry choose Advantage?

Advantage programs are:

  • designed for smaller enterprises
  • universal - all standards apply to all commodities
  • outcome based (rather than prescriptive standards), allowing flexibility and innovation in individual facilities to meet these standards
  • user-friendly, with straight forward language.
