Statement from the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on Proposed Changes to Regulation 441/400

This page was published under a previous government and is available for archival and research purposes.

"Ontario's processing vegetable sector is an economic driver for the province- accounting for more than $100 million in economic activity each and every year.

To better support growth and innovation in the sector, the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission is proposing updates to the Ontario Processing Vegetable Growers' governance structure.

The proposed changes have been implemented for other marketing boards and are aligned with current best practices when creating or amending marketing board plan regulations. They are also consistent with our government's strong support of regulated marketing in the province of Ontario.

In order to meet the needs of producers and processors, details of the proposed updates are currently posted for public comment on the provincial Regulatory Registry for forty-five days. As part of an open, collaborative and transparent process, I encourage all interested parties to provide their comments by July 31, 2017.

I would like to thank the Commission for their hard work and dedication to the continued growth of our agri-food industry and Ontario's economy. Together we are continuing to foster innovation and growth in Ontario's vegetable processing sector."

– Jeff Leal, Ontario's Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs
