| Nutrient Management Joint Research ProgramThe Nutrient Management Joint Research Program is intended to support the development of environmentally effective and scientifically robust management practice options for land application of agricultural and non-agricultural source materials in Ontario. Resource Management and Environment ResearchThe success of the Ontario agri-food sector is dependant on the resources which are available and how they are managed. OMAFRA supports research which focuses on the management of biophysical
and socio-economic resources to ensure a competitive agri-food and
rural sector while enhancing and preserving the environment. Research
in this area aims to integrate expertise from both the biophysical
and socio-economic disciplines. Sustainable Production Systems ResearchThe Ontario government is committed to research and development and recognizes that innovative research and development is the best way to grow the province's agri-food industry and to increase industry competitiveness. The challenges and opportunities Ontario's agricultural communities
face with respect to production agriculture have become more complex
(e.g. this now includes aspects such as agronomy, genetics, food safety,
consumer attitudes and market acceptability). In order to address
these increasingly complex issues, more integrated research programs
with expertise that crosses a number of scientific disciplines is
encouraged and welcomed. Water Management on Canadian FarmsThe analysis contained in this article is based on results from the 2001 Farm Environmental Management Survey (FEMS). These results provide insight into the level of adoption of environmentally sound practices and can assist governments, farmers and non-governmental organizations in the promotion and development of new farm environmental programs and practices.
