Development of pesticide resistance:

In any pest population there may be some individuals that have the genetic ability to survive a pesticide application.

A number of the offspring of the survivors inherit the resistance to pesticides.

These individuals survive the next spraying. If a similar pesticide is used frequently, the resistant individuals will soon make up most of the population.
