Welcome to the OMAFRA biogas website. Through the generation of biogas, a process where organic materials break down in an oxygen-free environment, Ontario's agricultural sector produces clean, renewable energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This page provides links to information about various biogas topics such as biogas safety, funding and training.

Minister's Order for the Agrifood Renewable Natural Gas for Transportation Demonstration Program

Renewable Natural Gas Discussion Document

You are invited to provide feedback on a Renewable Natural Gas Discussion Document so that we may understand the level of interest and business readiness for production and use of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) as transportation fuel. This could be part of a possible program under Ontario's Climate Change Action Plan.

As part of your feedback on the Discussion Document, we encourage you to address:

  • potential program participants
  • the business relationships that might be necessary for program success
  • possible barriers to project development
  • other activities that might require government support in order to enable broader uptake of RNG for transportation

Please submit your written comments online through the Environmental Registry, registry number 013-0316, or directly to the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs ("OMAFRA" or "the ministry") at by June 19, 2017. Please provide your contact information and indicate whether you are representing a business or an organization. We would like to thank in advance all those that chose to submit comments to OMAFRA.
