Integrated Pest Management Options

Serious pest in winter canola though can also impact early-planted spring canola. Adult weevils lay eggs directly into the seedpod. Pod feeding by the larvae can cause up to 35% yield loss. Foliar insecticide will not control larvae within the canola pod, therefore insecticide must be applied to adults prior to egg-laying. See the OMAFRA website for more information on biology, scouting techniques and thresholds.

Canola is a valuable honeysource and is utilized by honeybees. Bees also pollinate the crop. If spraying an insecticide, ensure there are no honey-producing hives in your area.
