Seedling Diseases

Present in all fields and all soil types. Maintain or build up good soil tilth by following a good crop rotation (3 years between bean crops of any kind), don't overwork the soil and avoid working it when it is too wet. Apply seed treatments that will help protect the plant from root rots during germination and early growth. Use tolerant varieties.

diazinon + captan + thiophanate-methyl – DCT
Active ingredient diazinon + captan + thiophanate-methyl
Trade nameDCT
Rate (product)1 L of slurry

Comments
Due to the threat of anthracnose infection to this crop, ALL edible bean seed should be treated with DCT or Dynasty 100FS. Seedling blights and damping-off are also controlled. Use full rate and ensure good coverage by applying as a slurry. Available as 400-g container that will treat 77 kg of dry bean seed. To make slurry, use 520 g seed treatment/L of water. For control of pythium and phytophthora root rots, add metalaxyl.
